The Mason County Sheriff’s office has a new Chief Deputy: Ryan Spurling. The new Chief was sworn in Tuesday by Sheriff Casey Salisbury during a private ceremony before family, friends and co-workers. Chief Spurling comes to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office after retiring from the Washington State Patrol where he served for over 25 years. Part of that time was spent as a defensive tactics instructor at the State Patrol Academy where he instructed most of the Troopers that are serving all across the state today. Chief Spurling is also a military veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army. The long time resident of Mason County is a was appointed after the Sheriff reviewed eleven candidates. Salisbury believes that Chief Spurling will bring positive leadership, extensive law enforcement experience and enthusiasm to the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
