The Shelton fast pitch softball team wasn’t able to keep up with Tumwater Monday and the Highclimbers lost to the Thunderbirds 19 to 5.

The T-Birds started their scoring in the first inning on RBI single by Jaylen Latchaw two-run home run by Jaylene Manriquez; added two in the second; one in the third, and three in the top of the four to build a 9 to 0 before Shelton was able to get on the board.

In the bottom of the fourth, the ‘Climbers’ Allison Baumgart hit a two-run double with two out and Shelton cut the lead to 9 to 2.

In the fifth, Tumwater added another run and the HIghclimbers Danyka Squire hit a solo home run making the score 10 to 3.

The Thunderbirds continued to add to their lead with a two-run homer with two out in the sixth by Megan Hurley and knocked in seven runs in the top of the seventh to lead 19 to 3.

Shelton managed two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice by Kayla Zembas and a single by Carly VanAagten.

The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Allison Baumgart who was 2 for 4 at the plate with a two doubles and two RBI. Danyka Squire was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Carly VanAagten was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Allyssa Holcomb was 1 for 3 and scored a run. Emma Schultz was 1 for 2. And Samantha Drywater and Addeline Stephens each scored a run.

Shelton drops to 1-and-3 on the season, 0-and-2 in the Evergreen Conference. The ‘Climbers continue EvCo play Wednesday at Centralia.
